General Appearance

20 POINTS

Appearance: Alert, active, graceful and symmetrical
Form: Long, straight top and underline, moderate depth and width and well proportioned. Legs apart and well set. Bone adequate.
Set:

 

Fully matured and in good flesh-Rams, 160 to 200 Ibs. Ewes, 120 to 160 Ibs.
 

20 POINTS

Head and Neck

Head: Medium in length and broad, with ample width between the eyes.
Nose: Between the eyes and nostrils, straight or slightly arched in ewes; more Strongly arched or "Roman" in rams. End of nose black with large nostrils.
 
Eyes: Large, clear and alert with dark pigment preferred around the eyes.
Ears: Thin, sharply erect, of medium length and well placed.
Properly proportioned with body and head joined smoothly to shoulder.

Neck:

 

Forequarters

10 POINTS

Shoulders: Compact on top, well covered and smoothly joined with neckand body.

Breast:

 

Clean through the front with adequate capacity fitting well into neck and brisket.
       

Body

20 POINTS

Back: Straight, broad, evenly and thickly covered.
Heart Girth: Full and deep.
Ribs: Well sprung and covered.
Loin: Long, wide, deep, well covered, blending well into rump.

Skin:

 

Pink.
       

Hindquarters

20 POINTS

Hips: Wide, apart, level and smooth.
Rump: Long, level, wide and well carried out to dock.

Twist:

 

Wide with adequate inner and outer leg muscling.
       

Fleece

10 POINT

 Fleece: Long white fleece, dense and even, covering the body completely from behind poll and ears to slightly above the knees and hocks including the belly. Balance of body covered with fine short, white hair.
 
Wool Grade: 1/4 to 3/8 blood combing (48's to58's), bright and soft
with distinct crimp and very slight yolk content.
   
Weight of Fleece: Rams, 8 to 14 Ibs., Ewes, 6 to 10 Ibs.
       

Characteristics that are highly
objectionable, but not disqualifying
unless present to a marked degree

1. Scurs.
2. Black spots except on top of head.
3. Bare belly.
4. High shoulders.
5. Pink or white hooves.
6. Nose not totally black.
7. Sandy or brown hair on head or legs.
8. Split scrotum

Characteristics which must
disqualify an otherwise good sheep

1. Horns.
2. Malformed mouth
    (over shot or under shot jaw).
3. Less than two testicles in rams.
4. Less than two teats in ewes.
5. Totally pink nose.
